Zeplin Invision

How do you work with developers? I'm working in a project where I'm the only designer and we are using Jira to do the sprints and track our tasks.

InVision provides the InVision DSM- an independent online design system manager — for product teas to unify, manage and share design systems. In comparison with Zeplin, it supports more design asset types like colors, typography, icons and components, but offers only Sketch plugin to import or resuse them.

I design everything using Sketch and I do it like this:

Hey UXers, Zeplin and Invison both are used for specifying guidelines and dimensions of elements used in the design so that the coders can code them by taking references from these, like the button dimension in dp or the hex of the color used in t. Zeplin provides capabilities much needed by developers including clarity on “finalized” designs, an accessible design workspace friendly to non-designers, added structure to design screens and of course tailored technical specs built by developers for developers. As a designer, do I have to pay for developers? Zeplin and InVision are prototyping tools used to enhance the user’s experience of a website or desktop application. To make it possible, one must choose a tool for prototyping, and for that, he should have complete knowledge of the features, drawbacks of each tool.

  • Create a Page for each 'section' that we are going to have (ie. Home, Products, Detail, etc)

  • Create an Artboard for each 'state' (Dashboard, Element hover, Element selected, etc) and each 'size' (1.25x, Desktop, Tablet, Mobile)

Then I want to share everything using InVision but here's where I get to the first problem. To do the Sketch + InVision integration I will need to have a file for each 'size' that I want (right?). I think that with Sketch Libraries this is going to be 'easy', but still, not sure if this is the best approach.

Invision

I send all the views to Zeplin so developers could have the specs and I post the link to Zeplin on Jira.

This is my current flow, do you do something similar or there's something I'm doing different?

Over the last few years the challenge of making communication between designers and developers more natural has been a topic close to my heart. I’ve always hated condescending designers that think their job stops once they’ve exported their mockups. The final product is the build, not your fancy high definition mockups!

Zeplin Vs Invision

Over the last few years the challenge of making communication between designers and developers more natural has been a topic close to my heart. I’ve always hated condescending designers that think their job stops once they’ve exported their mockups. The final product is the build, not your fancy high definition mockups! The same goes for developers who just think that it makes no difference whatsoever if that line is 4px in height instead of 2px

Zeppelin Invision

At Graphite we’ve solved this by doing two things. Firstly, by over-communicating. Developers are involved from the very beginning; helping designers to make the right decisions as well as enabling them to explore new opportunities. Designers always put their designs in front of developers before we share with our clients. It’s a practice that doesn’t require anything formal, just a quick chat to iron everything out. Everybody gets involved which has the power to save us from a few embarrassing or awkward conversations down the line.

The second thing is by introducing Zeplin, a blessing of a tool that has been making things a lot easier for both sides. Developers don’t have to worry about slicing assets and designers don’t have to create extensive documentation around their designs. This means that we can spend time fine tuning the build instead of making sure that this h3 has the right leading everywhere or that the designer followed the grid everywhere.

Zeplin Vs Invision Inspect

However, Invisionhave recentlyreleasedInspect, and that means the competition is on! Here’s my list of pros and cons for both tools…
